House Update - Fall 2016

This finale post is less about the house, and more about the projects I was referring to around the house. We have big plans for fencing. Corner posts were set and I'm hoping the wire can be stretched soon so that my horses can move up the hill with us.

I also completed a major landscaping project that I didn't think would get done. It all came together right before the first frost. Now, I'm just hoping my plants survive the winter.

Disclaimer: some photos might be repeats from monthly updates.

September 2016

Drew got the majority of the leftover rock sorted and stored

first fire outside

frequent morning guests

testing out his Dad's body sprays

lots of help and sketchy ladders to hang the elk head

the basement is awesome for biking

I hit the jackpot with this facebook yard sale find of a table, 8 chairs, and a buffet. See farther down in post for after photos.

October/November 2016

Blinds made a huge difference!!

Drew finished the window washing after I had done most of the work

And this begins the landscaping before/after photos. Forgive me if I included this in a post already. I think I decided to go ahead with this project because I first found these grasses and boxwoods on clearance at Walmart. $2.50 a plant!!! How could I not feel ambitious?

It took a lot of purchasing at multiple Walmarts, local greenhouses, and even Home Depot online. I finally had what I wanted and the layout, hole digging, and planning began. Thanks is due to my Mom who dug SOME of the holes, but not nearly as many as I've heard that she claims to have done.

I had to borrow Griffin's orange cones to help me visualize

We also needed some kind of walkway to the front of the house that would really tie in with the rustic look. I checked with a local landscaping company and got a quote for a flat rock walkway, and also rock border options for the plant beds. We were very pleased with the quality of work and price.

this is how the Home Depot nandinas came

I am a huge fan of this method!

I planted the length of the retaining wall at the back of my house by myself......with 2 little helpers in the dark one night.

Here came the rocks!

Thanks to Trevor for the creek rock!!

Here's pictures of the refinished dining set. I really thought this room would be barren for a while. It was meant to be I guess. It was also extra special that the table was there just in time to hold a beautiful flower arrangement from Marta's service. I wish it could have lasted forever.

These pictures from the Saturday morning that Eric came to move the large rocks from the Dakotas could definitely be repeats. It was quite a task, and we are thankful for he and Jimi's time.

Even 5 months after moving in, we are still settling into the idea that this is home. There is so much to be thankful for, and so many people who helped us along the way. I could never list them all, but I hope I've told them at some point how much we appreciate them.
