What the heck?

Griffin has seen a little snow before, but nothing like what we got yesterday. I was anxious to get home from work to take him sledding. I should have read the signs to know how he would feel about it. When I walked into daycare to pick him up he was very concerned pointing to all the snowflakes that had gathered on my hair and coat with a troubled look on his face.

It seems like when I was a child it snowed a lot, all the time. I remember being so excited about it, I guess I just expected Griffin would be too.

I wouldn't call sledding a success. He had so many layers on that he couldn't sit flat on his butt in an upright position, or really move well at all. I think he was amazed that he couldn't see the ground, that the white stuff was cold, and it made his gloves wet. We had to use several different pair until he realized keeping them on his hands worked in his favor. Overall, it seemed to be a very confusing 30 minutes. Maybe he will enjoy it more this weekend when we are due for another round.

where did my feet go?

20 Months Old

This has been an interesting month with Mr. Griffin. He hasn't had another ear infection thankfully, but did have a flu-like illness and all the fun that brings. If we can make it through the remainder of March without any other health issues I will be especially happy. It was March of last year when he had pneumonia twice. Also crossing our fingers that spring won't bring bad allergies. It was July when he finally had fluid long enough in his ears that they decided he needed tubes.

Drew went on 2 business trips this month. Griffin is devastated when he leaves.....and because of that, I am too. Every morning when he woke up he would ask for "Dada", every time the driveway dinger would go off he automatically ran to the door thinking it was him, and every time he noticed Drew's truck in the driveway he thought "Dada" was home. When he did finally come home the excitement on Griffin's face was priceless. The poor kid was trying to develop separation anxiety through all of that....but last night, Drew was able to say "bye" and walk out the door to go play basketball without a meltdown.

Griffin is still working on his words. They aren't all clear or obviously sound correct but he does attempt to say: dada, mama, bubba (duke), bath, ball, yes, no, kitty, shoes, out, up, light, off, night night, bye bye, hi, banana, I thought this would be easy to list them all but there are too many. That's a blessing.

He also can throw with surprising accuracy, kick, and do all the ninja moves that aren't really welcome at this point. Griffin is becoming the bully at daycare, but I'm hoping it is just a phase. I knew there was reason not to be upset when he was the one being bitten, hit, etc. The tables can turn so easy!

In potty training news, he is still sitting on his little potty by the toilet when he feels like it. Nothing happening while he is on it, but he is consistently standing up at the end of his bath and staring at his "man parts" until, sure enough, he pees in the water. This must be a good sign that he has figured out the process of making himself go.

We are anticipating a big winter storm coming through tomorrow and the threat of up to 8" of snow. Hopefully it sticks around for the weekend and Griffin can experience sledding for the first time!

Egg Hunting!

Tonight, Griffin attempted his first Easter egg hunt. It was a success....

There was a lot of competition:

Thankfully, they did split the age groups up and Griffin was only fighting other 1 and 2 year olds. I really wasn't sure if he would "get it" and figure out what to do.....I don't know why I doubted my little hoarder. It was too easy for him and the eggs were plentiful.

.....notice all the eggs in the background

we'll never get all these picked up.....

He eventually switched gears and tested out all of the playground equipment.....

I didn't get any photos of him tackling the jungle gym, but he handled it like a champ. I think the older kids had to come clean up the little kids' area (see eggs still in the background). By this point, they had all given up. Somehow I convinced Griffin it was time to go home, but we will have to get more time at the playground in the future. Good times, just wished Dada would have been there to enjoy it!

Briley's 5th Birthday Party

Today, we celebrated Griffin's cousin Briley turning 5 this past week. I didn't get any good pictures of the bounce house but all of the kids loved it. Griffin was so busy with all the other outdoor toys, he didn't even get inside to jump. Maybe tomorrow since it's rented all weekend. We really need to invest in some outside things for Griffin this year. That's where he wants to spend all of his time!

I have to get one of these this year....

Hangin' around the house

We continue to wait for winter to be over.......dreaming of the day we can play outside until the sun goes down. We have several "toys" in the house from Christmas that I'm more than ready to move outside (basketball goal, cozy truck, picnic table).

Griffin is definitely showing interest in potty training. He knows where and what the "potty" is, how to sit on it, and recently, he wants to pull his pants down before sitting on it. We'll see where that goes.

Also, there seems to be an obsession with hats developing--see photos below. Not surprising, since Drew wears one on a daily basis.

Only a week until daylight saving time begins and hopefully, the cure of Griffin's cabin fever.
