April Monthly Update

April definitely brought showers. I've included photos from the record flooding we had at the end of the month.

It was also the end to Soccer & T ball (hallelujah).

It was the beginning of turkey season (successful).

It brought a lot of trouble for Griffin. His teachers asked if his Dad was out of town again. We even had a note home. He's so protective of Cooper and "mother hens" him ALL the time, but he's also roughing him up. It's the classic, 'No one can beat my brother up, but I can do whatever I want to him'.

Cooper is what I call "officially" potty-trained. I think he's done it a little faster than Griffin did. He is still capable of an accident, but mostly tells us when he needs to go. He even wakes up dry a lot of the time.

Also in April, we had a visit from cousin Alicia again. This makes 2 years in a row! It's really nice to spend the day with her here in the country.

To go along with the flooding, April gave us our MOST SCARIEST MOMENT EVER of parenting to date. More below.

First, my cuties' pictures:

My flowers were blooming for the first time.

T ball action shots:

Griffin was actually really good in soccer this year. I was super sick one day, and that was the evening Griffin scored 5 or 6 goals. Drew was so proud that he could dribble the ball down the field. I don't have any video of that night, but I do have this one that shows his skills.....and poor Kaelyn's mom yelling.

Tipper is as cute as ever.

We did a little bit of morel mushroom hunting. Found an equal amount of ticks.

We have this fun little game called "Would you Rather?" I made one up while in the woods that night. Your options are:

a) fall from the sky to sudden death unless you grab this with both bare hands

OR

b) bear hug this tree and slide down it from top to bottom

Take your pick......

Horses are shedding the winter coat:

We had the pond beside the old house re-done. It has always leaked and will almost go completely dry in summer. Thanks to the massive amounts of rain we had, it's now full.

Very few pics of turkey season this year, but here's a few:

Griffin's daycare buddy named Brody

Cousin Alicia is a lot of fun! She brought Grandma Delores down for a day of relaxing during her visit from California. We had lunch and played with bubbles in the backyard before dinner at El Imperial.

And a few more from turkey season:

Last of the T Ball pics, probably forever, because he really is ready for coach pitch next year.

Dog water bowl silliness.

The full pond:

Which was a result of all this flooding......
They said we had a 500-1000 year flood in our area. It was nuts.

More from the farm:

This was a couple days after, still water standing at the farm house.

The road to the cabin:

Which brings me to the most awful parenting moment we've ever had. While it was raining, and I was home with both boys, the power had gone out. It was late afternoon and Cooper was taking a nap. Griffin was tired and running around in his underwear, while we attempted to get him to sleep. Drew had gone to the main farm to survey the damage and I went to the bathroom. When I came out, there was complete silence and Griffin was NO WHERE to be found. He is not the type to hide from us, so my first thought was that he had fallen asleep. I walked between rooms of the house but didn't find him. I didn't want to wake Cooper up but I was curious where Griffin could have been, so I began yelling his name. Still no answer. At this point, I started to get a little nervous because it was so out of the ordinary. Keep in mind that it's pouring rain outside, and the house is dark in places. I got a flashlight and started looking in closets, under beds, every room, back porch, front porch, still nothing......he is brave but he isn't the type to go outside without us knowing and wander off. After about 20 minutes of searching, I started to panic. It was SOOO unusual for him to just disappear. I covered the house from end to end, even ran in the rain, down to the new FULL pond to make sure he wasn't there. Meanwhile, I had tried to call Drew several times but couldn't get him due to spotty service at the farm. I had no choice because I was very truly feeling sick and scared, so I send him a text that I couldn't find Griffin. Thankfully that got through, in a matter of minutes, Drew was calling. I'm pretty sure I've never heard him so frantic in my lifetime. It was a quick, heated, loud exchange and he was on his way to the house. When he got there, I still hadn't found Griffin. We both ran around like crazy people, YELLING his name. I think the weather situation really escalated things. Finally........I go into my bedroom and notice through the pillows, a foot.

I can't even describe the sense of relief I felt. It was a ugly cry, sobbing, breakdown over the side of the bed. I was literally sick to my stomach the rest of the day over the whole ordeal. Shortly after, the power came back on.

Both children were sound asleep during this whole thing. I don't know how. Thank you God, that it wasn't as big of a deal as it seemed.

But I can't end on a crazy story like that. So here's a couple more pics of Tipster, doing what she does best.
